What is a Lace Wig?

This amazing new concept has been a well kept secret in Hollywood for the past couple of

As well as the obvious glitz and glamour association, Lace Wigs have also restored confidence to people suffering from hair loss due to medical conditions such as alopecia or chemotherapy.

A Lace Wig is intricately built on an extremely sheer lace cap, by hand tying individual strands of hair to the lace. This unique technique allows for a totally natural hairline to be created, one that is virtually invisible to the eye. This also applies to when the hair of the wig is parted, with the hair appearing to “grow” from the scalp so that the wig can be worn in a variety of styles: high ponytail, braided, curled.

What is the difference between a lace front wig and a regular wig?

A full Lace Wig is an intricately designed cap created entirely from lace. Each strand of hair is individually hand tied to the lace giving the realistic appearance of a scalp. Our Lace Wigs are produced with bleached knots to blend in with the colour of the lace.  When deciding upon your Lace Wig, you would choose a similar colour to your own scalp to ensure a realistic look. You would then be able to part the hair in any direction or wear it in a high ponytail without the worry of exposed tracks.

The wigs are also made from very light lace, which allows the air to flow inside and out of the cap, to combat the dreaded itching that usually occurs with a non Lace wig!

What are the different types of lace available?

French lace creates a strong wig construction, which is slightly more detectable than Swiss however more robust. French cap construction is ideal for first time wearers as it is more durable and virtually undetectable.

Swiss lace is a finer less detectable lace. The lace is fragile and more suitable for experienced users.

What is the difference between Indian & Chinese Remy Hair?

The word “Remy” defines the process by which cuticles of the hair from the person donating it are kept intact and aligned together when the wig is knotted into the cap.

The Indian Remy Hair is strong and flexible; it can withstand the various processes, is naturally thick and maintains its natural volume; it is donated from people in that geography.

The Brazilian Remy Hair is very strong and of a coarser texture. It is more akin to African/Afro American Hair Texture and is donated from people in that geography.

The Chinese Remy hair is of a finer texture and is more delicate. Again, it is donated from people in that geography.

·        Yaki Straight: resembles ‘relaxed’ afro hair.

·        Kinky Soft: resembles blow dried afro hair texture.

·        Jheri Curl:          for natural afro hair texture.

How do I choose a wig density?

The “Wig Density” refers to the volume of hair that is tied to the base cap.

At Lace Wig Elegance, we aim to provide the density that you require. The medium density gives the most realistic appearance and as such all our “In stock” Lace Wigs are of this most popular density.  We also offer Light Density, and Heavy Density.

How do I apply my lace wig?

Lace wigs are attached by using adhesives which come in the form of liquid or tape (or you could use both). The method you use will depend entirely on personal preference. Our Research team keeps up to date with all the latest technological developments and the most reliable adhesives being produced. Can I dye, perm or blow dry my wig?

Our wigs can be treated in much the same way as your own hair. They can therefore be permed, coloured or heat treated. However, great care should be taken in treating your wig to reduce the likelihood of damage.

What are Knots?

Lace Wig Elegance produces wigs that are 100% hand tied and knotted. The hair is knotted into the lace securely with each strand of hair tightly hand tied with either a single knot or a double knot. The knots are bleached to give the appearance that hair is actually growing from the scalp.

What is Baby hair?

We use baby hair knotted into the lace on the periphery of the wig to make it look far more natural and undetectable. This is especially effective when you lift your hair in a high ponytail or swept back style. You can also part your hair anywhere and the join of wig and head will not be easily visible.

Will adhesives affect my hairline?

When applied properly, the adhesive should not be placed on the hair so this should reduce the risk of any damage. You can also wear a wig cap under the wig to avoid any adhesive touching the hairline.

Adhesives will break down over time and we recommend that adhesives are removed and reapplied on a regular basis. When removing your wig, please allow sufficient time to undertake this process, allowing the lace release to separate the wig from your hairline. Do not be tempted to remove it in a hurry as this will damage both the wig and your hairline!

How long can I wear the wig before I have to remove it?

This depends on many factors; skin type, adhesive strength, climate, etc. Some customers are able to wear their wigs for 1-4 weeks at a time. However, due to easy application and removal, most customers are finding it preferable to remove their wigs on a weekly basis to care for their own hair, cleanse the lace and reapply. Although it is possible, daily removal of your wig is not recommended, as this will place additional stress on the lace and shorten the lifespan of your wig.
